FEMA 320 Shelter Construction Guide

femasign 1250x650

In 1998, FEMA published a guide called "Taking Shelter From the Storm." The publication, currently in its Fifth Edition, includes construction plans and specifications for building a storm shelter safe room for your home. It is officially called FEMA P-320, but is most commonly referred to as FEMA 320.

The tornado shelter construction plans are still available on the FEMA website, and the guide is referenced by thousands of people each year after disasters and in preparation for an upcoming tornado season. It's meant to help you determine risk and analyze the best type of storm shelter for a specific area.

At Survive-A-Storm, we recognize that not everyone has the means or desire to build a storm shelter. We aim to provide the best possible long-term solutions for you and your family, your business, and your community. We follow all FEMA 320 guidelines and ICC-500 building codes to ensure that Survive-A-Storm tornado shelters provide near-absolute protection.

We build our storm shelters with American steel, and install them on a thick bed of concrete, following guidelines of the National Storm Shelter Association. With Survive-A-Storm tornado shelters, no matter how bad the storm gets, its occupants will be safe. This is true of both our underground and above-ground tornado safe rooms, both residential and commercial.
