FEMA 320 Shelter Construction Guide
In August 2008, FEMA published a guide called “Taking Shelter From the Storm”. This is the Third Edition of this construction plans and specifications for building a storm shelter safe room for your home or business. (See FEMA 320) The construction plans are available in DWG and PDF formats on the FEMA website. This guide is meant to help determine your risk, and the best type of storm shelter for your situation. Not everyone wants to build their own shelter though! We at Survive-a-Storm understand that, and want to provide you with the best possible long-term solution to providing a safe room for you and your family, your business, and your community.
And what’s even better, is that we follow all of the FEMA 320 guidelines and ICC-500 building codes to ensure that the shelters we are putting our names on provide near-absolute protection.
At Survive-a-Storm Shelters we build our storm shelters of steel set on a thick bed of concrete so that no matter how bad the tornado gets, you will be safe. And we do this for all of our above ground tornado safe rooms, both residential and commercial.
